Life has a tendency to speed up on us every now and then. Whether it is work responsibilities, family responsibilities, or you just have a ton going on in all aspects of life. When this happens most people tend to spiral a little bit and look up months later only to realize things haven’t been going the way they would like. When it comes to lifting and general fitness we can get off track very quickly and feel lost trying to claw our way back to former strength and just feeling good. Recently this has happened to me.
The past few months I have had my surgery, weddings in New York, and my girlfriend’s father passed away. I have been back and forth across the country multiple times , I am dealing with rehab and disability and have just had an out of wack schedule for the pat 3 months. Now this isn’t an excuse but more of an explanation and reflection on things. When we have our life speed up we need to be able to slow down. As counter intuitive as it may seem some times you need to just stop, breathe and refocus.
It may sound silly but when you notice things are starting to spiral you need to slow yourself down. This doesn’t mean be lazy and just stop doing things or to stop being there for the people that need you. It means you need to find a minute or two to slow your thinking down so you can find the first actionable step you need to take to get back on track. For me it has been keeping consistent and making sure I get into the gym at least 3 times a week. While my eating has been out of control I have found that first actionable step that will lead to the next actionable step and before I know it I will be back where I want to be. You can and should do this too!
Today I want you to do this as well. When you are done reading this sit down for 3-5 minutes and come up with one simple thing you can do today that will put you back in the right direction. It can be as simple as doing 10 pushups or making sure you get enough water. It will be different for everyone but the one universal is that you need to JUST DO IT (Nike was right!)
